Hummer H2 SUT :
Should You Buy This Car?
The H2 SUT is an odd animal. It's a pleasure to drive in some ways--probably far more than you'd expect. And over the worst terrain, with standard three-mode four-wheel drive and enough differential locks to spin any wheel you might need, you're highly unlikely to find yourself stuck. Then again, the aforementioned Subaru will do a lot of the same chores, and cost you about $25,000 less, while also getting double the mileage per gallon. No, you couldn't take the Outback into the most extreme circumstances, but are you actually going to go to such places?
Further, if you need exterior cargo capacity, do you really want such limited space? Wouldn't a real pickup with four-wheel drive do just fine and get you pretty much anywhere you need to go--and again, likely save you at least some dough both on the sticker and at the pump?
We think GM should have made a real
Hummer limo pickup, a vehicle that, in fact, is just the kind of thing that Jeep is showing at the current NAIAS in Detroit this week. A tough, rugged truck that isn't afraid to be just that--a work vehicle for those who can afford a top-end model.
As it is, we're not sure who the ideal owner of SUT would be. Perhaps that's why Hummer dealers still find themselves with an average 80-day supply of H2s. The vehicle motto states the H2 is "Like Nothing Else," but that also tells you it just isn't the kind of vehicle most people actually need.
